'Ni hao, ni qu na li?'
'Xie xie.'
'Zai jian.'
This simple and short Chinese dialogue was what the writer heard at Airport Schiphol ,Amsterdam, and the person who said this Chinese is a Dutch Customers officer in the airport.
This is a special Chinese language service that Schiphol provides for Chinese passengers since 2005. Net Ease reported that more than five years ago at Airport Schiphol provided Chinese language service for the purpose of promoting Chinese market and attracting passengers from China.A few days ago, the writer flew back to China from Schiphol and has personally experienced the friendly Chinese language service by the staff at Schiphol.
To begin with, the writer found Chinese language option when checking in the baggage, which provides useful help for those Chinese people who do not understand English or Dutch. With the guidance of Chinese language option, the writer completed check-in procedure in an easy way.
After that, there was a short and easy Chinese dialogue between Dutch Customs officer at Schiphol and the writer when walking through the security:
'Ni hao, ni qu na li?'the customs officer asked smilingly.
'Wo qu Hangzhou.' After checking the passport and boarding pass, the officer said again: 'Xie xie, zai jian.'
'Zai jian.'
Look around different kinds of duty-free shops in Schiphol, it is clear to see that most shops put a label at the cashier's with'ji piao & huzhao', in order to remind customers from China to show their passports and boarding pass when paying the bills. The writer bought some special souvenirs in the dutyfree shops, the Dutch salespersons showed his Chinese'ni hao ma?
Wo hen hao.'at the casher's.Although they pronounced incorrectly, Chinese passengers can feel the warmth.
According to www.xinhuanet.com, the number of Chinese passengers travelling to the Netherlands has been increasing for years, and keeps an annual growth rate of 15% since 2008 .Moreover, as far as the writer knows, a lot of Chinese passengers who head for European cities will choose to fly to Schiphol at first, and then transfer to flights to their
destinations.'We are going to Rome. The reason why we change our flight here is because there are many alternative flights from Schiphol to Rome,'A Chinese passenger told the writer.
A bachelor student who is studying Economics abroad pointed out that Schiphol's Chinese language services would attract more and more Chinese passengers coming to Schiphol and shopping in the airport, which will act as a stimulant to the economic growth.
Note:Schiphol is the most important airport in the Netherlands; moreover, it is also one of the three busiest international airports in Europe.
